Memo Disk Quota Increase Process

User* will be provided a minimum warning level to be set no less than 15 MB less than quota limit to allow time for account cleaning and for completion of the increase process.

Requests for disk quota increase should proceed via the helpdesk. User disk quotas will be increased by a ITS Directory Administration team administrator as follows:

§ No more than 75MB at a time

§ Maximum increase level of 575 MB per user

§ Initial quota amount will be set at 120 MB.

As your quota is increased, please perform the following disk space reducing measures:

• Delete messages with large attachments (greater than 100 KB); the attachments can be saved to disk. Messages can be sorted by size to discover the largest.
• Delete all unnecessary messages in all server mail folders.
• Delete all personal messages.
• Move applicable messages to local mail.
• Make sure email is not being used inefficiently/inappropriately (e.g. for file storage/archiving).

Quote increases will be made in 75 MB increments per request, up to a total of 500 MB.

Quote increases from 500 to 575 MB will need to be approved by the ITS Directory Administration department manager.

Any request for an increase above 575 MB is referred back to the campus to create a local IMAP store for the end-user unless an increase is approved by Miguel Corzo or designee.   

Note: When hard disk quota is reached, mail will be bounced. This is not an optional configuration.

*This document typically refers to employee accounts. Service accounts may receive greater scrutiny with quota increase requests.
